Membership, January social event and the upcoming relay night

We are organising a Pirate social event on Sunday 23^rd January at 4pm, when we will present the awards to the club champions for 2010. Please mark this date in your diary and keep it free, we will give you more information in the coming weeks.

Thanks to those members who have let me know about the relay night with Terrey Hills, we have got 21 Pirates swimming so far. If you have not let me know, please do so in the next few days as Cap’n Mark needs to work on the teams.

100 x 100's - Update

For those joining us in the 100 x 100's, please note that this will be held on Thursday 30th December 2010 at the Warringah Aquatic Centre commencing at 5.30am.

Looking forward to seeing Pirates and others on the day, like Damien Eyre from Western Australia, who is coming over for this event, OK, not just for this event.. but he's coming over ayway. Damien used to train with Cap'n Mark at Willoughby Leisure Centre under Graeme Brewer, and was a strong Pool and Ocean Swimmer before being whisked off to WA, where he currently swims Pool Masters. His nickname is Damo, so lets all make him welcome.

Btw Damo, you'll have to compare your recent 200 SC free time (w/e of 28/11) with Cap'n Mark's time on the same day, to see if you'll be able to handle the pace :)))

Terrey Hills relay meet

Hi everyone.

We have been challenged to another relay meet with Terrey Hills which will be held at Narabeen on Thursday 16^th December. I am just finalising the program with Terrey Hills, but I am hoping to have 4x25 freestyle, 4x50 medley, 10x25 freestyle and then a Santa handicap relay with ?x50m freestyle, with everyone involved.

Terrey Hills have promised to have 30 swimmers compete, so we need to match them.

Can you please let me know if you will be swimming on the night, as Cap’n Mark will have to put the combinations together.

We will have supper after the swim. So please come and join us for a great night with our Terrey Hills friends

Last session for the year will be Sunday 19^th December at Terrey Hills.

First session for the new year will be Tuesday 4^th January at Warringah.

Planning Meeting Cancelled

At the last Committee Meeting it was decided not to proceed with the planning meeting touted for the 21st November. It seemed unlikely that we would get a representative number of attendees and the meeting might well run too long to maintain interest.

The Committee felt though that it was important to state some goals and objectives for the Club for the next year and those are presented here.

Competition

The Seaside Pirates Club aims to be competitive at the highest level of Masters Swimming

Why

Setting challenges, commitment to training and team support is key to a successful club.

Objectives

•    We aim to win all three State titles in 2011

•    The Club will aim to form a strong team to compete at the 2011 Nationals in Perth WA with the specific goal of winning the Visitors Trophy

•    Member participation at our Club carnival at SOPAC to increase to a minimum of 50%

•    A coaching programme for 2011 to be published by Dec 31st with attention to the timing of the State and National swims

•    We will be repeating and look to increase participation in the Club Championships

Membership

The Seaside Pirates welcomes members to be part of a community of people who swim for fitness, friendship and fun

Why

To attract new members and motivate existing members to participate to their highest capacity, it is essential to provide an environment of connectedness and camaraderie.

Objectives

•    The Club will conduct at least 2 friendly relay competitions with Terrey Hills Masters

•    The 2010 Yearbook will be published by the end of February 2011

•    A social event will be held in December 2010 or January 2011 for the Club Championship presentation as well as two other social events during 2011.

•    The monthly post training breakfasts will continue

 Community

The Seaside Pirates is open to anyone willing to participate, regardless of ability

Why

A successful swimming club needs to be aware of opportunities to broaden its membership base in order to be sustainable, dynamic and a role model to other clubs.

Objectives 

•    The Club will participate in a friendly swim against Warringah Masters and Avalon Swimming Club at an ocean pool in March

•    In cooperation with a local surf club we'll run an ocean swim in 2011

•    A sponsorship program will be implemented, initially through the NSP website and developing throughout activities and merchandise.

•    A selection of fresh Club gear will be ordered and offered to members for purchase.

Notes

1.   The Club has always expected that members take part in carnivals and will be asking members to increase that commitment this year. The coaching program will be aimed towards competition goals but will not exclude members who are not able to take part in some competitions.

2.   The Committee will be seeking a member to act as organiser/co-ordinator for the Perth team.

3.   All members are invited to comment on and contribute to these Club goals
